Desert plants, including Aloe vera, can live without water for a longer time, but it doesn't mean they don't need water to survive. They have special means of harvesting and storing water, that is why they can survive longer than other plants if they are not watered.
How Often Do You Water the Aloe vera Plant?
The short answer to this is to water your Aloe vera plant when the soil is dry. How long does the soil get dry after watering depends on the following:
The type of soil you use
Different types of soil has different water holding capacity. If you have more than one Aloe vera plant, but each has different soil used, your watering schedule maybe different for each plant because the soil may not dry at the same time.
The size of the pot used
The size of the pot determines the quantity of the soil it can hold. Pot capacity is the point where the soil water holding capacity has reached its maximum for the entire pot. The smaller the pot, the fewer the soil, and it means shorter time for the soil to get dry. If an Aloe vera is planted in a big pot filled with soil, it may take time for the soil to get dry when watered compared with another Aloe vera planted in a small pot.
The size of the plant
Bigger plants consume more water than smaller plants. If a small Aloe vera is planted in a pot filled with soil, it may take time for the soil to get dry when watered compared with a bigger Aloe vera planted in a pot of the same size.
The climate and weather condition
If you live in a tropical country, the soil may get dry easily compared with those in other parts of the world. Also, during summer, the soil gets dry easily compared with the other seasons of the year.
